Application Deadline August 9, 2024About The CollegeLos Angeles Mission College (LAMC) is a two-year community college that serves more than 12,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The College is one of nine in the Los Angeles Community College District. Founded in 1975, LAMC is located in the scenic foothill community of Sylmar and has strong historical ties to the neighboring communities of San Fernando, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City and Granada Hills. In recent years, the institution's enrollment base has expanded to include many of the communities throughout the greater San Fernando Valley, as well as Canyon Country and Santa Clarita.
DescriptionLos Angeles Mission College (LAMC) Academic Affairs unit is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic faculty member to serve as the college's Career and Work Experience (CWE) Pathway Coordinator -Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) . The Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) position will report to the Dean of Academic Affairs/Economic and Workforce Development. The ISA will support the facilitation of expanding and improving Career Education programs within our six (6) Career and Academic Pathways; Arts, Media and Performance, Business, Law and Public Safety, Child, Family and Education Studies, Culinary Arts, Society, Culture, and Communication and STEM, Health and Fitness by increasing Work Experience, Cooperative Education Internship and Externship opportunities for our credit and noncredit students.
The CWE Pathway Coordinator will also be responsible for implementing the Learning Aligned Employment Program, Cooperative Education and Work Experience for credit and non-credit students. The CWE Pathway Coordinator will also collaborate with the American Job Center of California, North San Fernando Valley provider in connecting and aligning employment and internship opportunities.
The CWE Pathway Coordinator will liaise with faculty to assist in the creation and development of future Work Experience, Cooperative Education, Internship and Externship opportunities for each of the Career and Academic Programs (CAP)s with local high schools; support and possibly re-design current career pathways being offered ; provide a faculty perspective when attending and participating in and/or facilitating local and regional professional activities, along with participating on local and regional committees. This is a temporary specially-funded position for the duration of the special fund cycle only
Minimum Qualifications
- A degree from an accredited college or university that allows the individual to teach any discipline offered at LAMC. Professional or occupational experience must be reasonably related to the instructional assignment.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.
DUTIES
- Works with college counselors and department Chairs in developing career pathway certificates, associate degrees and transfer related requirements;
- The Career and Work Experience Pathways Coordinator coordinates the college's Regional Job placement program through planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating all outreach, recruitment, and other pre-enrollment services for prospective students to ensure matriculation and completion of Career Education Certificates and/or AS Degrees.
- The Career and Work Experience Pathways Coordinator will coordinate the Learning Aligned Employment Program by connecting students to internship and externship program as well as overseeing the research component of the program.
- The Career and Work Experience Pathways coordinator will work with Chairs and Faculty on the creation of Cooperative Education and Work Experience courses in credit and non-credit.
- Designs/implements programs for faculty/staff development related to career and work experience opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with faculty to improve current work experience, cooperative education curriculum in both credit and noncredit.
- Works collaboratively with student outreach and recruitment services.
- Acts as the faculty liaison for all local, regional and state grants and projects related to K-16 Career Pathways, Cooperative Education, LEAP and Work Experience (Credit/NonCredit) in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Student Services.
- Liaises and coordinates with counselors to provide information sessions related to Career Pathways, Work Experience, Cooperative Education and LEAP with K-16 partners as needed.
- Serves as a faculty liaison to area K-16 school district personnel; fosters positive working relationships with other faculty, staff, and administrators in area schools; promotes the college throughout the community
- Coordinates with Student Services in advising and support services designed to facilitate course registration in credit and noncredit programs; collaborates with instructional divisions to develop and coordinate course offerings focused on cooperative education and work experience.
Desirable Qualifications
- Two years' experience working and/or teaching at a community college.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a timely manner, follow up on details, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Outstanding people skills and be able to work well with others and demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing, and implementing academic support programs and services for students.
- Flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Enthusiastic, creative and capable of functioning effectively in a professional work setting with various levels of staff, and possess the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of Work Based Learning strategies is a plus.
- Knowledge of Cooperative Education is a plus.
- Experience in facilitating K-16 Career and Workforce Pathway Programs.
- Demonstrated success in curriculum development, instructional technology, and shared governance.
- Experience in working on a campus with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students and a demonstrated commitment to cultural competence within an academic setting.

Salary And BenefitsThis is a 12-month, D-basis, 1.0 FTE limited, specially-funded faculty coordinator ISA position. Compensation continues at the current rate for the faculty member's regular full-time assignment. This position is renewable annually based on availability of funds, as well as evaluation of outcomes and performance. The salary range is $87,588 to $162,744 is commensurate with academic preparation and experience for new employees not currently on the preparation salary scheduled; employees currently on the preparation salary schedule will continue at current salary rate. The doctoral differential is $5.532 per academic year. District benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance.
