And don’t forget the things to do that are free all the time, like hiking trails, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, North Carolina Museum of Art, Yates Mill County Park and so much more.

We focus on free and cheap events, but, of course, the definition of “cheap” varies for each person. We sometimes include events that are a little pricier but are a lot of fun and a good value.

I love this website. The only thing that I wish it included was the city/town where the free/cheap event is taking place. Example: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm | FREE | Kidzu Children’s Museum | Chapel Hill. I would help find great events that are closer to home. Thanks for putting together a great place to find events!!

Yes, I also agree about needing more info on exactly where these activities are being offered would be very helpful. Maybe a contact # if possible? Great website though, especially on these rainy days where you would like to find something to do with the grandchildren.

For the most part, I’m indicating on the venue name the city or town where it takes place. If you click on the event you’ll get all the information, including the address. Thanks!

I am new to the area so I am not familiar with local bands and musicians. It would be helpful to know the type of music being performed. I like most types of music but would especially like to know where to find jazz performances in intimate settings in the area.

Hi and welcome! There are two Jazz jams in the area: every Thursday at 8:00 at Bond Bros Eastside, Cary; and twice per month at the Corner Tavern and Grill, Cary. They have a meet up. Conniejaz1@gmail.com if you want to connect.

I realize the town is typically indicated but if events were listed together by town , that would help, rather than having to look at each one to see where located. It’s no biggie but would be nice to just be able to look at only Raleigh area events etc.
I love the site and appreciate all the work that goes into it!
    Thank you!

Hey Pamela, there’s a way to do that! Go here: https://triangleonthecheap.com/upcoming-raleigh-events/

I need to find a way to make all the features of the website easier to find, but if you scroll WAY to the bottom, you’ll see something to click on to see events in a few different locations, and then there’s even a search for locations so you can search for another location.

Wow, this is a great list. There’s lot of free events as well. Thanks for curating such a list. I didn’t realize how many things there were to do, although I guess it makes sense because it is summertime. I’m glad I found this!

We really like to see a separate listing just for the kids so that we don’t have to search thru the complete list to find children ‘s activities in the RTP area. This is a great source of information where have your choice and plan ahead for things to do. Thanks.

We actually have a list of upcoming free and cheap events for kids (and family-friendly)! There’s a whole section on the website if you scroll down a little bit, this is the post that will help: https://triangleonthecheap.com/free-cheap-events-kids/

I’ll put a link to this on the “free weekend (and week)” list to make it easier to find!

this blog is the best! I have no complaints at all. Before this blog we had to look at every paper and all this different places to figure it out. This is the best and I am very impressed!

ugh, everyone needs to just be grateful for this. It takes approx 2 minutes to search and if that is too much trouble than maybe people need to adjust their expectations!

New to the area and this website is a lifesaver in getting to know our new home! I even know about things before my local colleagues – been telling everyone about this sight when I’m asked how do I know about an event! You guys do a splendid job.

    • Jody Mace says

Hi Toni, there are hardly any in-person events happening right now, but when they start back up I’m definitely open to adding events for Clayton, as well as throughout the rest of the Triangle. If you know of something that should be included, please let us know! Thanks!

Thank you so much for putting this together! I used to use Offline Durham until they became paid subscription only. I agree with one of the other comments- people should be grateful that this resource is here at all, free of charge, as everything seems to be becoming monetized in this area! It hardly takes me a few minutes to scan the list (I look for the opposite of most of the other commenters- date night ideas where it’s not exclusively geared toward kids/families).

I have offered commendations to the producer(s) of Triangle on the Cheap some years back — once or twice. It is great to now see that so many other people concur with me. This is a wonderful weekly resource for the community for all types of experiences whenever they may need them.

It is always great to discover the new sections of exploration that are added periodically, such as “Cheapest gas prices”, grocery and other shopping suggestions, and even listings for what I’ll call: Re-distribution and Re-sale shops. Keep up the great work of informing the public weekly as you do. You are providing a great service to the community.
