What is the best DPS spec for rogue in classic WoW? ›

Combat Rogues are the best spec for Rogues in the early phases of Classic WoW. They will choose between Combat Swords (19/32) or Combat Daggers (15/31/5), depending on what are the best weapons available. Many Rogues will stick with Daggers, but it largely depends on which weapons you can actually get your hands on.

Viability for Rogue DPS

Rogues are a strong melee damage dealer in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. However the rogue lacks meaningful multi-target damage - only a few spells in their toolkit help them deal damage to any more than one target at a time.

When leveling a Rogue, Combat Swords is the most recommended build. It is the bread-and-butter build for Rogues, great for beginners, has great progression while leveling, and is easy to transition into raiding.

Out of all three Rogue specs, we recommend Subtlety as the best choice for leveling. It offers the best single-target burst damage and allows you to dispatch enemies within only a few seconds, jumping from enemy to enemy in quick succession.

Agility is the primary stat for a Rogue and there is no such thing as too much. It provides attack power, critical strike chance, and even a little dodge to help you survive! Strength continues to offer 1 Attack Power per point and that is it. Rogues will not want any strength past their base stats.

The Rogue makes a single weapon attack and adds the Fighter's Superiority Dice to damage, as well as Sneak Attack if it applies. In a party with a single-classed Rogue, this could amount to significant damage from the Sneak Attack alone.

The Soulknife is the strongest rogue subclass in the game.
